Personal Accident Insurance offers you an opportunity to enhance your insurance coverage at truly competitive rates.
For example, you could qualify for $25,000 of accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) protection
for as little as $1 per month . Or, you could purchase the same level of protection for yourself,
your spouse and your dependants for just $1.50 a month .
With CATCA Personal Accident Insurance coverage, you will receive the following benefits from the Unum Life Insurance Company (now RBC Insurance) if any one of the following specific losses occurs within one year from the date of an accident:*

* The maximum payable for any one accident will not exceed the principal sum of the accidental death & dismemberment benefit with the exception of quadriplegia, hemiplegia and paraplegia where the maximum payable is two times the principal sum.
The benefit is payable only if death or loss occurs within 365 days of the accident.
Loss shall mean with regard to hands and feet, actual severance through or above wrist or ankle joint; with regard to eyes, entire and irrecoverable loss of sight; with regard to leg or arm, actual severance through or above knee or elbow joint; with regard to thumb and fingers, actual severance through or above metacarpophalangeal joints; with regard to toes, actual severance through or above metacarpophalangeal joints; with regard to speech and hearing, entire and irrecoverable; with regard to paralysis (quadriplegia, paraplegia, hemiplegia) loss must be complete and irreversible recovery of the use of such limbs.
Loss of use of an arm, hand, leg or foot must be total and irrecoverable and must be continuous for 12 months after which, the benefit for loss of use is payable, provided such nerve damage is determined to be permanent.
How to qualify for Personal Accident Insurance
Available in units of $25,000, Personal Accident Insurance can provide up to $250,000 of AD&D life insurance coverage. For your convenience, premiums will be deducted automatically from your pay on a monthly basis.
Protect just yourself or also include members of your family
CATCA's Personal Accident Insurance program offers two AD&D protection plans: Member Only coverage and the Member and Family Plan .
With Member Only coverage, you can receive up to $250,000 of AD&D insurance protection.
Under the Member and Family Plan , your spouse* will be insured for 40 per cent of the benefits you elect for yourself, if you have dependant children, or 50 per cent if you do not have dependant children. Plus, if you have a spouse, each dependant child will be insured for 10 per cent of the benefit you elect for yourself. If you do not have a spouse, each dependant child will be insured for 15 per cent of the benefit you elect for yourself.
* (The term spouse means the person under age 65 to whom you are legally married or with whom you have lived in a common-law relationship for at least one year. A dependant child is your unmarried natural child, step-child or foster child under the age of 21 who is dependent on you for financial support or is between the ages of 21 and 24, unmarried and attending an accredited college or university, or is dependent on you due to a physical or mental disability.)
Other important benefits
The Personal Accident Insurance program offers other important features, including the following benefits:
Free, 31-day conversion. If you change your occupation and are under age 70, you may convert up to $100,000 your Personal Accident Insurance coverage to an individual insurance plan from RBC Insurance within 31 days of termination, without evidence of insurability or medical examination. (Rates will be based on those in effect at the time of conversion.)
Coverage to age 70. Personal Accident Insurance coverage is available to age 70. It's a great way to supplement your insurance coverage at surprisingly low rates.
Education benefit. Up to $5,000 per child per year will be paid for a maximum of four years for tuition fees and books, provided your children enrol in an accredited college, university or CEGEP within one year of your accidental death.
Spousal retraining. Up to $10,000 will be paid to your spouse to help him/her attend formal occupational training programs to gain active employment in an occupation that he/she would not otherwise have adequate qualifications.
Repatriation benefit . Should death occur at least 100 kilometres from your principal city of residence, up to $10,000 will be paid to prepare or transport the body to that city.
